Palaniappan Chidambaram (Tamil: பழனியப்பன் சிதம்பரம், born 16 September 1945) is an Indian politician affiliated with the Indian National Congress and the current Union Minister of Finance of the Republic of India. P. Chidambaram is a well-known corporate lawyer and an important member of the last two Congress-led Governments. [citation needed] His term as a Minister of Finance is noted for his work in improving the finances of the government that enabled Congress to score a political point.
